Student Sustainability Reps
A new student program in the area of sustainability was launched this fall. Student Sustainability Reps serve the campus community by receiving additional training in sustainability topics and sharing their knowledge with their peers. We currently have 20 reps. This fall, they have had the opportunity to learn more about recycling and have also been assisting with emptying some of the new recycling bins.
You may have noticed some new blue recycling receptacles on the dorm floors and in various other key locations on campus. We are trying to encourage all of the Judson community members to recycle more! You can cooperate with this process by only placing recyclable items in the bins and not using them as garbage receptacles. Proper recycling saves our school money because we are not charged for any recycling that is hauled away like we are for garbage hauling. However, if our recycling dumpsters are too full of garbage, the waste company can refuse to treat the load as recyclables due to too much contamination.
Orientation Service Project
This fall, the freshman received some training in single stream recycling and helped to place the new blue bins around campus. They also made some signs to give residents guidance in proper recycling procedures.
During the Fall 2011 break, we hosted a team of students from Creighton University. Justin Palmer, President of our Student Sustainability Committee, gave them a tour of HAWAC followed by a general campus tour with Professor Leslie Kruser highlighting some of our other campus progress.

Sustainability Management major
The new Sustainability Management major is an undergraduate program designed to teach students about the efficient and responsible stewardship of social, environmental, and economic resources within business processes. Upon completion of the degree, graduates will be equipped to lead and manage sustainability programs and projects for companies, organizations, and communities for present and future generations.
The new Sustainability Management degree is unique because students will take courses from three of the five schools at Judson University as they fulfill their major requirements.
