Christmas Concert of Worship to Feature Acclaimed International Pianist Huntley Brown

Christmas Concert - Huntley Brown(ELGIN, IL – November 10, 2017) Judson University proudly announces that acclaimed pianist Huntley Brown will be the guest artist during this year’s Christmas Concert of Worship on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. and again at a second concert performance at 7 p.m. in Herrick Chapel (1151 N. State St., Elgin).

“The DCWPA Christmas Concerts of Worship have always been wonderful ways to usher in the Christmas season, and I’m so pleased that this year we will welcome our Artist-in-Residence Rev. Huntley Brown as our special guest artist,” said Demoss Center Director Dr. Warren J. Anderson ’86.

Brown, a 1988 JU alumnus, is the pianist for the Ruth Graham and Friends Ministries. He also plays with the Franklin Graham team and has long been associated with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. And, since 2015, this award-winning recording artist has served as the artist-in-residence at Judson’s Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts (DCWPA).

At Judson, he lectures on trends in global worship, gives master classes in jazz piano and serves as the worship leader for the biannual Judson University cruise event. He has also been instrumental in leading the Judson University Choir on performance tours to his homeland of Jamaica in 2014 and then again in 2016. He and the Judson University Choir will tour Europe in May 2018.

During the Christmas concert, the Rev. Brown will play favorite Christmas songs with members of the Judson University Choir, the Piano Ensemble, the Judson Civic Orchestra, the Guitar Ensemble, the Chamber Singers, the Jazz Ensemble and the Judson Community Music School Children’s Choir (led by Beca Malmgren ’11).

Christmas CD 2017In addition to the great music on stage, concertgoers can purchase Judson’s latest Christmas CD, “A Demoss Center Christmas.” The CD features 12 tracks from the past three Christmas concerts of 2014, 2015 and 2016, as well as a track from the Percussion Ensemble’s Christmas concert in 2015. The songs highlight Judson students as well as past guests and alums, including Citizen Way’s Ben Calhoun ’03; Judson Department of Music Chair Dr. Robert Kania; former Willow Creek Community Church worship leader Aaron Niequist ’98; and Christian singer and songwriter Bob Bennett.

This CD and others will be available for purchase in the chapel foyer. They are also available now through the DCWPA online store (mkt.com/dcwpa).

The Friends of Judson organization will also have its annual cookie sale in the foyer during intermission.

Admission is free, however a free-will offering will be collected. Please plan to join us for this inspirational celebration to kick off the Christmas season.

Free shuttle service will be available from Lindner Tower to Herrick Chapel, starting at 2 p.m., with returns after the 3 p.m. program only.
