Professor Colpitts Exhibition Opens Today at Draewell Gallery
(Elgin, IL – January 29, 2010) The Draewell Gallery of Art on the campus of Judson University is pleased to announce the opening of Judson University professor G.E. Colpitts’ exhibit “Cenotaph.”
The exhibition runs from January 29 through February 26, and Colpitts will give a lecture in conjunction with the opening reception on January 29, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Herrick Chapel at Judson University’s Elgin campus. The reception will immediately follow her lecture from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Draewell Gallery.
Colpitts is the chair of the Judson University Department of Art and Design and a nationally recognized artist. Her lecture will explore her sabbatical project and thoughts on research, work and process concurrent with her exhibition "Cenotaph." Through this exhibit, Colpitts’ drawings and ceramics use metaphor to create meaning.
"It is a pleasure to exhibit an artist who can combine her methodical research in ceramics and history with her masterful drawing ability to create a powerful installation that uses metaphor to create a new context in which to view the work,” says Joe Cory, director, Draewell Gallery of Art.
The exhibition and all events are free and open to the public.
