Jim Munroe Amazes and Inspires at World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series

WLF IS - Jim Munroe(ELGIN, IL – October 10, 2017) Renowned author, magician and cancer survivor Jim Munroe filled the room with laughter, tears and amazement at Judson University’s third annual World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series on Monday evening. In 2009, Munroe was one of the most sought-after magicians in the world, known for his bewildering acts of illusion that left audiences yearning for more. After receiving a harrowing leukemia diagnosis and being given only months to live, Munroe beat the odds thanks to a lifesaving bone marrow donation from a young Wisconsin woman.

“I’m either a statistical anomaly, or there is something bigger going on behind the scenes,” Munroe told the audience. “This magician,” he said pointing to himself, “believes he’s experienced a miracle.”

Munroe’s bone marrow donor, Jennell Jenney, joined Munroe on stage at the event to talk about the importance of bone marrow donations. Representatives from Be the Match, manager of the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world, were in the audience. Be the Match credits Munroe for 14,000 new registrants – including 57 matches to date.

Munroe’s performance, the MAZE, is an innovative approach to entertainment that immerses audience members in Munroe’s story of survival. Through mystery and magic, Munroe challenges people to go behind the scenes of our human existence to search for the truth. He is the author of The Charlatan: The Skeptical, Mysterious, Supernatural True Story of a Christian Magician, and a regular speaker at conferences, corporations and events around the world. He lives outside of Dallas, Texas, with his wife and two children.

“Not only was Jim Munroe entertaining and inspiring, he also performed illusionary magic tricks that that made everyone’s jaws drop to the floor,” said Judson University President Dr. Gene Crume. “We are grateful to Jim for perfectly fulfilling the mission of the World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series.”

The goal of the annual World Leaders Forum Inspirational Series is to offer Judson students and the Chicagoland community an opportunity to be inspired by significant thought leaders. The series has previously featured Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton and Life Without Limbs author and motivational speaker Nick Vujicic.

Proceeds fund Judson Leadership Scholarships and innovative entrepreneurial activities, as well as support ongoing operations of the World Leaders Forum. Now in its fourth academic year, the Judson Leadership Scholars Program provides the most prestigious scholarship that a Judson student can receive, with up to five recipients selected per year. Student scholars receive leadership training and financial aid based on their academic merit, leadership qualities, and financial need. To be eligible, a student must show attributes of creativity, leadership, innovation, mission and faith.
