Join Us for a Month of Music This November

Guitar Ensemble(ELGIN, IL – October 30, 2017) In November, the Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts (DCWPA) will host a number of musical events that showcase talented students, staff and faculty. Most performances will start at 7 p.m. and will take place in the Thulin Auditorium in Thompson Hall (1151 N. State St., Elgin), except as otherwise noted. Admission is free for most events.

“November is our favorite month of the fall semester,” said Dr. Warren Anderson, director of the DCWPA.  “All our ensembles give concerts and recitals, and the whole community benefits from all this wonderful shared music.”

Friday, Nov. 10: There will be a Piano Ensemble recital featuring eight pianists, 16 hands and 80 fingers on 704 piano keys.

Tuesday, Nov. 14: The Jazz Ensemble Jazz Cafe will take place in Dark Room Studio B in lower Thompson Hall. There will also be pizza to enjoy while listening to great music.

Friday, Nov. 17: The Guitar Ensembles and the Judson Chamber Singers will present a melodic recital featuring various music styles.

OrchestraSunday, Nov. 19: The Judson Civic Orchestra will perform Mendelssohn's Symphony #5 "Reformation" in honor of the 500th anniversary of The Reformation, as well as the lovely "Karelia Suite" by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Students and children are free, adults are $10 and seniors are $8. The concert is at 2 p.m. in Herrick Chapel (1151 N. State St., Elgin).

Monday, Nov. 20: The Merit Recital will feature students who were selected to perform based on excellence during their midterm auditions. This special recital is presented in honor of a primary school in Jamaica. A free-will offering will be taken during the recital to enable the DCWPA to purchase an instrument each semester for the school's budding jazz ensemble. So far, a trumpet and trombone have been donated. The hope is to donate a flute this semester.

Tuesday, Nov. 28: The Percussion Ensemble will perform an exciting concert utilizing a wide variety of percussion instruments, from finger cymbals to a stage full of marimbas!

And really, there are more musical surprises to come in December!
