Judson Gears Up for Fourth Shark Tank Competition

Shark Tank 2017(ELGIN, IL – October 26, 2017) Judson University’s fourth Shark Tank event is Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Thulin Auditorium (1151 N. State St., Elgin). The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature Judson student groups – all competing to nab $2,000 in prize money.

Inspired by ABC Network’s business competition show, “Shark Tank,” Judson’s business pitch competition debuted in spring 2015. A second competition followed in November 2015, and another in November 2016.

This year’s finalists will be selected from a group of nine during the Entrepreneurial Open Forum voting on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Upper Commons. Judson students, staff and faculty will have an opportunity to hear quick pitches from each contestant and cast votes for their favorites.

Contestants prepared for this first round of voting by attending the Entrepreneurship Workshop led by Judson alum Ethan Adams ’15, winner of the second Judson Shark Tank competition.

Among the students competing for the five finalist spots this year are:

Junior Dan Bitner of Dallastown, Pa., and his idea for “Cat Headphones.”

Freshman Josiah Guyant of Oshkosh, Wis., and his “Robotics Team.”

Junior Sarah Kay of Barrington Hills, Ill., and her idea for The Tea Leafe (“Tea-ology”).

Senior Clara McDowell of Elgin, Ill., and her idea for “Greek Fitness.”

Seniors Creighton North of Ferrisburg, Vt., and Ryan Faulkner, of Montrose, Pa., and their idea for an “Earbuddi.”

Junior Jean-Marc Plantin of Brockton, Mass., and his idea for the “One” leasing app.

Senior Nathaniel Rozanski of Southampton, N.J., and “The System” educational game.

Sophomore Jaqueline Sosa of Rockford, Ill., and her ideas for “D8FATE,” a dating app.

Freshman Kenjrick Watson of Worth, Ill., and his “Security Code Washers and Dryers” idea.

The competition’s grand prize is $1,000, with $500 and $250 prizes for second and third place, and a $100 prize for the fan favorite.
