Judson Prepares for Outstanding Homecoming Weekend of Activities

Homecoming 2017(ELGIN, IL – August 2, 2017) Judson University is once again preparing for a festive and full weekend of food, fun and #judsonawesome fellowship during Homecoming 2017. The three-day extravaganza, which will run Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 21-23, will be filled with dynamic speakers, great music, class reunions and connections with family and friends.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, Judson will host its popular business-themed Network Night event, a great opportunity for current students, alumni and local business partners to gather together and create new synergies. The night’s special guest will be David Plummer, the executive producer of WCIU-TV show, "The Jam." Plummer, who attended Judson from 1995 through 1998 and studied Communication Arts and Theater Arts, is an Emmy-winning television producer, writer and director. His presentation will take place in the newly renovated Reed Room (formerly the Eagle Lounge) in Lindner Tower from 6:30-8:30 p.m. To register for Network Night, click here. The formerly announced speaker, Kraig Kleeman had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

Friday, Sept. 22, will be filled with special gatherings for Judson students and alumni guests. The Alumni Chapel service, which will take place at 10 a.m. in Herrick Chapel, will be led by a trio of alums/current faculty and staff, including Pat Hargis ’77, Warren Anderson ’86 and Elliott Anderson ’89. They will perform highlights from Hargis’ debut CD, “Memories of Jesus.”

Friday night will mark a special evening of music, comedic fun, spectacular awards and fine dining. The annual Alumni Dinner will take place in the renovated Lindner Commons – providing alumni with their first look at the newly updated space. The night will also include a presentation of the Alumnus of the Year, Distinguished and Family Legacy awards. The night’s speaker and emcee will be author/comedian Dr. David Rendall ’95. The Hitch Family singers originally from Columbus, Ohio, will be the night’s musical guests. Advance registration and payment are required.

Friday will also be the evening for Judson students’ star-studded Homecoming celebration, which will take place at a swanky location off campus.

Homecoming LogoThe schedule on Saturday, Sept. 23, will be chockfull of delightful events for the young and the young at heart. The day will begin with a Fun Run/5K outside of Lindner Fitness Center. Many morning sports events are on the roster, including: an Alumni Men’s Soccer Game (8:30 a.m.); Disc Golf event on updated campus course (8:30 a.m.); Alumni Baseball and Softball Games (9 a.m.); and an Alumni Women’s Soccer Game (9:45 a.m.);

Jeanette Hsieh, widow of the late Professor Ted Hsieh, will open up her home (located at 1328 Wauchope, Elgin) to alumni guests for a “We Are Family” morning gathering at 9:30 a.m. Dr. and Mrs. Crume will host a “Coffee with the Crumes” informative state of the campus address at 10 a.m. in Lindner Commons.

The Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame Lunch & Awards Ceremony will honor its 15th class of inductees in Lindner Commons from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Advance registration is required.

The Jesse White Tumblers return for Homecoming this year, helping to kick off a plethora of outdoor activities on Saturday. The tumblers will perform at 1 p.m., near Dawson Field. Get ready to dibble and dabble with face painting, carnival games and inflatables, too, and enjoy a petting zoo, ponies and more between 1:30-3:30 p.m. near the field.

At 1:30 p.m., the Men’s Varsity Soccer team will play against Trinity International University. At 4 p.m., the Women’s Varsity Soccer team will take on Trinity International.

There will be a “Dine with the Professors” event at 5:30 p.m. in the Thompson Center (advanced registration required). And, at 7 p.m. in Herrick Chapel, Homecoming 2017 will end on a high note as three featured alumni, including Graduate Programs in Literacy Education Chair Dr. Steve Layne ’87, FamilyLife This Week host Michelle Hill ’97and music composer Scott Liebenow ’95, will take to the stage for a first-of-its-kind “Evening of (Music) and Stories.”
