Judson Sends Three Women's Track & Field Athletes to NAIA Track Championships
(Elgin, IL - May 21, 2013) Three students from the woman's track team will compete in the NAIA Meet this weekend, May 23 - 25, at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind., including Sarah Miller (3000m Steeplechase), Meaghan Ciochon (1500m), and Sarah Dede (Triple Jump.)
Ciochon and Dede both used clutch performances in the Dr. Keeler Track and Field Invitational on Friday to secure berths to the NAIA National Track and Field Championships. The annual meet at North Central College always serves as a last chance to qualify for Nationals for many of the best athletes across the midwest.
Ciochon was less than a half of a second away from the qualifying standard of 4:42.50 when she ran the 1500m at the NCCAA National Championships. This time, she ran a new school record time of 4:39.07. The record time qualifies her for the NAIA National Championships in the 1500m. This is the first time that she has qualified as an individual for this meet, but she did qualify as a freshman running a leg of the school record holding 4 x 800m Relay team.
Dede also was not qualified before the meet, but had come close throughout the year to reaching the 11.30m standard in the triple jump. She finally reached the standard in the last meet of the year by jumping 11.32m and securing her spot in the triple jump at the NAIA National Championships. This will be her third trip to the Outdoor Track and Field Championships as she qualified as a freshman and a sophomore before redshirting last outdoor season.
Both Ciochon and Dede are ranked No. 20 in the NAIA in their events heading into the national meet. Sarah Miller is currently ranked No. 27 in the 3000m Steeplechase.
