Judson Student Abby Lima Works with MEC

(Elgin, IL August 26, 2010) Judson student Abby Lima will graduate next spring with a degree in biology, but she's already finding ways to use her degree, reports Michigan news website MLive.com. Lima has been volunteering with the Michigan Earth Corps, an organization that promotes "hands-on environmental stewardship and service-learning projects" among young people ages 16-24.

After enlisting the Kalamazoo Nature Center as an organizational partner and obtaining a ChangeMakers grant from the Kalamazoo Community Foundation, the MEC completed its first service projects this summer. Five crew members from the MEC were selected to participate, among them Abby Lima.

"It was such a great experience,” Lima said. “Every day we were actually learning the things we were studying (in seminars). It was a get-your-hands-dirty kind of job.”
