Judson University Professor and Filmmaker Darren Wilson Announces Worldwide Tour for Upcoming Film, "Father of Lights"
(Elgin, IL – July 5, 2012) Judson University Adjunct Professor and Filmmaker Darren Wilson has announced a full summer tour for his latest film, "Father of Lights," the third installment in his documentary series that has explored God's power and love across the world.
Wilson earned his Bachelor of Arts from Judson in 1998 with a major in English and minor in Biblical Studies. For more than 12 years he has taught media and writing at Judson in the same department from which he graduated. In 2013 Wilson will be leading a unique co-op program that will give students hands-on film-making experiences through his studio, Wanderlust Productions, which is housed on Judson's Elgin campus. Students interested in working with Wilson and Wanderlust can go to JudsonUu.edu/Wanderlust.
Wilson began pursuing a career in filmmaking in 2005, and produced his first documentary "Finger of God," in 2007, followed by its sequel, "Furious Love" in 2010. To date, the two films have combined to sell over 120,000 copies and have been featured on TBN, God TV, the Gospel Music Channel, the 700 Club, Christianity Today, and Charisma Magazine.
For the final installment in this documentary series about God, Wilson says he went into the film with a simple question: Who is God?
"If I were to have to explain what it is about in a nutshell, I would put it like this: if 'Finger of God' is about God’s power, and 'Furious Love' is about God’s love, then 'Father of Lights' is about God’s heart," he explains.
Wilson sought to answer his question by exploring the many misconceptions about God that have been formed by religious entities over thousands of years, and by seeking powerful testimonies of God's love taking place in the world today. As with past films in the series, Wilson brings the audience face-to-face with the extremes of society and religion with witch doctors, Hindu gurus, violent gang members, and religious fanatics who, as Wilson explains, "cannot resist the loving power of a Father who is unlike anything they have ever experienced."
For the release of this final film in his groundbreaking series, Wilson's production company sought an extensive tour showing the film in 30-40 large venues/churches during the summer of 2012. To fund the tour, they began a kickstarter.com campaign with a goal of $15,000. Within less than 24 hours of opening the campaign, their goal had been reached. By April 30 when the campaign closed, they had raised $95,733.
The tour, which will run from July 8-September 29, will show "Father of Lights" in its entirety, followed by an evening of ministry and worship. A handful of these tour stops will also feature musical performances in a concert-and-a-movie style event. According to the film's website, the goal of the tour is "to create a city-wide event where a number of area churches can come together in a sign of love, respect and unity, and create an outreach event that encompasses the entire region."
