Judson University School of Education to Host Literacy Expert Regie Routman at "A Day at Judson" on October 21

(Elgin, IL - October 9, 2013) Judson's School of Education will host its semi-annual "A Day at Judson" seminar, featuring literacy expert Regie Routman, beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, October 21 in the Lindner Campus Commons (1151 N. State St.). Regie Routman ADAJ

This semi-annual seminar invites area educators to hear from leading experts in the field of education. During the seminar, Routman will give a series of lectures titled, "Literacy and Leadership K-8: Increasing Reading and Writing Achievement and Engagement Schoolwide." She will discuss the mindsets, strategies, beliefs and practices that make high literacy achievement across a whole school possible and sustainable.

Routman's teaching experience of more than 40 years includes being an elementary school teacher, a reading specialist, a learning disabilities tutor, a Reading Recovery teacher, a language arts resource and mentor teacher, a staff developer, and a literacy coach. She has authored several books and resources that are widely acclaimed as providing a solid, research-based understanding of language learning along with a wealth of practical ideas and annotated resources. Her works include Teaching Essentials: Expecting the Most and Getting the Best from Every Learner, K-8 and her 2008 and 2009 DVD-based, literacy series: Regie Routman in Residence: Transforming Our Teaching. An outgrowth of her residency work, primarily in high-needs schools with underserved students, has also been to organize a national conference on Urgency and School Change; the first was held in March 2011 in Seattle, and the second will be held in Seattle in March 2013. Her newest publication is Literacy and Learning Lessons from a Longtime Teacher (International Reading Association, September 2012.)
