Judson University to Host Every Body Walk! Event in Partnership with Activate Elgin’s March Into Health Month
(Elgin, IL – March 5, 2014) Judson University's Health Education and Promotion class is inviting the Elgin community to join them for the Every Body Walk! event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 18 at Lindner Tower, Classroom D (1151 N. State St., Elgin).
Every Body Walk! will help guests discover how walking is a beneficial activity for a body's well-being, with helpful tips on how people can incorporate it into their lifestyles on an everyday basis. The event is part of Elgin's March Into Health month, an annual program to promote physical activity in the community. The March Into Health program is coordinated by Activate Elgin, an organization that works to engage all sectors of the community to work in harmony to provide all residents with opportunities to improve their health, well-being and overall quality of life. This is Judson University's third year partnering with Active Elgin for March Into Health.
"The Elgin community is one of the fastest growing communities in Illinois, so we want to ensure the public is well aware of different outlets to practice physical activity for free in the area," says Judson's Exercise and Sport Sciences Professor Cathy Headley, who coordinates Judson's partnership with Activate Elgin. She also teaches the Health Education and Promotion class that's hosting the Every Body Walk! event.
"Inactivity and unhealthy lifestyles account for 60 percent of the nation's medical care cost, and results in over 670,000 premature deaths each year," Headley explains. "With Activate Elgin, we're working to help people avoid being victims of the unhealthy lifestyle trend that's present in America."
