Judson's Spiritual Council to Host the Inaugural Unity in Diversity in Christ Event Highlighted by Dr. Ed Stetzer Speaking in Chapel on April 19
(ELGIN, IL – April 7, 2017) Judson University will present the inaugural "Unity in Diversity in Christ" event on Wednesday, April 19, sponsored by the Judson University Spiritual Council. The day will begin with Dr. Ed Stetzer speaking in the morning chapel service. The daylong event will continue through the afternoon with a workshop, luncheon and discussion group.
At 10 a.m., Dr. Stetzer will provide a keynote chapel address on the topic of diversity from a faith perspective in Herrick Chapel (1151 N. State St., Elgin). Following the chapel service, the event will continue in Lindner Tower’s Eagle Lounge with engagement experiences, learning modules, lunch and table discussion groups hosted by Judson’s Spiritual Council. The “Unity in Diversity in Christ” event will end at 4:30 p.m., concluding with worship in Herrick Chapel led by the Judson University Choir. The event is free and open to the public.
“The upcoming inaugural ‘Unity in Diversity in Christ’ event is sure to be a highlight of the academic year as we celebrate the love of God for all his created nations, peoples and tribes,” stated Dr. Curtis Sartor, associate vice president for Diversity and Spiritual Development. “Our guest speaker, Dr. Ed Stetzer, is an outstanding Christian leader, educator and researcher who deeply understands God’s people. In addition to his role at The Moody Church, Dr. Stetzer holds the recently created Billy Graham Distinguished Chair for Church, Mission, and Evangelism at Wheaton College. He also serves as the executive director of the Billy Graham Center for Evangelism at Wheaton, and as chair of the Evangelism and Leadership Program in the Graduate School.
Prior to coming to Wheaton College and subsequently The Moody Church, he was the executive director of LifeWay Research and executive editor of The Gospel Project and Facts & Trends Magazine. He also served as the teaching pastor at Christ Fellowship, a multicultural church in Miami, Fla.
Dr. Stetzer is a prolific author and well-known conference speaker. He has planted, revitalized and pastored churches, trained pastors and church planters on six continents, holds two master’s degrees and two doctorates, and has written a dozen books and hundreds of articles.
The purpose of the “Unity in Diversity in Christ” event is for participants to walk away with meaningful and useful tools on the topic of diversity that can be applied personally as well as build sustainable relationships between the Judson Spiritual Council and greater Judson community. Participants will be sharing their perspectives about their experiences utilizing the assessment developed by Project Implicit and found on the organization’s website at https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/. This event is designed to be interactive, giving participants the opportunity to dialogue with the table facilitators and each other on the topic of diversity.
