Judson to Host Conference for the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure and Sport Studies

CSKLS Conference(ELGIN, IL – May 17, 2018) Judson University’s Exercise and Sport Science Department will host the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure and Sport Studies (CSKLS) annual conference on Wednesday-Friday, June 6-8, at Lindner Fitness Center (1151 N. State St., Elgin).

The CSKLS group looks to connect professionals through faith-integration, professional development, mentoring and fellowship annually. During this two and a half-day conference, more than 75 professionals will share current research and pedagogical ideas in kinesiology, sport and leisure studies. It is also an opportunity for this international community of Christian scholars and professionals to attend workshops, hear keynote presentations and engage with students.

Local high school students interested in these areas of study are encouraged to attend and meet working professionals and academics.

Steve Connor-1On Thursday evening, June 7, author, speaker and former NFL player Steve Connor (who played with both the Chicago Bears and L.A. Rams) will give the keynote address. Connor is the founder of Sports Outreach International and has worked with athletes and sports organizations on every continent except Antartica.

“This is a great opportunity to show how we integrate faith into our classroom and field,” says Judson Professor Dr. Cathy Headley, this year’s conference host. “This is a group of people that speaks the same language as professionals, but broadly this is a great opportunity to show we can (work with) other departments and fields, too.”

Registration for the CSKLS Conference is open. Participants can take advantage of day-pass pricing: Wednesday, June 6: half-day event, $25; Thursday, June 7, whole-day event, $50; and Friday, June 8, half-day event, $25.
