Judson to Host a Marathon of Music, Worship, Prayer and Testimonies to Raise Funds for Hurricane Harvey Victims

Worship(ELGIN, IL – September 4, 2017) To aid the many victims of recent Hurricane Harvey throughout the state of Texas, Judson University’s Demoss Center for Worship in the Performing Arts will host a “marathon” music, prayer and testimony vigil set to begin at 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Thulin Auditorium in Thompson Hall (1151 N. State St., Elgin). It will culminate on Sunday, Sept. 10, with a Community Hour in the Thulin Auditorium from 12:30-1:30 p.m., and will close with a Celebration of Giving Concert at 2 p.m.

The round-the-clock event, called “26.2h of Music, Worship, Prayer, Vigil, and Testimony,” will be directed by Music Department Chair Dr. Robert Kania, who himself will share his harrowing testimony and tell of the pivotal role prayer played in disarming communist regimes in his native Poland. The idea will be to pray for the hurricane victims and to raise funds during the 26.2-hour event. The prayer event will be open to students and others to share their testimonies, musical talents and special prayer requests.

Sunday's Celebration of Giving Concert at 2 p.m. will feature internationally acclaimed soprano Maria Kanyova and pianist Huntley Brown, along with Judson's Music faculty and the Judson University Choir under the direction of Dr. Warren Anderson.

Everyone is welcome to come, enjoy and contribute. The proceeds will be donated to World Vision for the Hurricane Harvey relief effort.

"I know prayer is essential to help victims of this tragedy,” Dr. Kania said. “Although we do not require contributions for participation, we do hope to raise as many funds as possible for the victims of Hurricane Harvey. We will be donating all proceeds to World Vision for their hurricane relief effort. 26.2h is open to anyone in the community that would like to share their music, lead in prayer, or offer testimony. Please contact me to fill a need."
