Literacy Conference - A Day at Judson - is March 5

Ruth Culham (ELGIN, IL – February 21, 2019) Judson University will host its 2019 annual event “A Day At Judson,” featuring author and educator Ruth Culham, Ed. D. The event will begin at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5 in the Lindner Campus Commons (1151 N. State St., Elgin). During the seminar, Culham will highlight the importance of writing in education.

In the morning, Seminar participants will “focus on how to integrate best practices and develop a robust, comprehensive, and doable framework that creates fluent, confident writers at every grade,” said Culham. Afternoon sessions will focus on how to utilize literary texts to energize students in their writing while also providing valuable skills and training.

Culham has written numerous books, including “Teach Writing Well,” “Dream Walkers: Mentor Texts that Celebrate Latino Culture,” and “The Writing Thief.” She was also awarded the 2011 Teacher’s Choice award for her work, “Traits of Writing: The Complete Guide for Middle School.” Her work is the result of 40 years of research and practice in education.

The event is sponsored by Judson University’s Master of Education in Literacy, which offers further educational opportunities to educators. Among its many distinctive attributes, the program can be completed in just over a year and allows for a focus on practical classroom instruction. Classes are designed to fit the lives of busy working professionals, offering night and weekend classes.
