Newsies: The Broadway Musical is Fall Production for Judson Theatre

Disney Newsies(ELGIN, IL – October 3, 2018) Judson University’s Theatre Department will present Newsies as its fall production later this month. The show, based on the Tony Award-winning musical, will take place at 7 p.m. nightly Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 24-27, in the Thulin Auditorium in Thompson Hall (1151 N. State St., Elgin). There will be a bonus 2 p.m. matinee show on Saturday, Oct. 27.

This lively Broadway musical, an adaptation of the 1992 Disney film, is based on a true story about New York City's newsboys in 1899 seizing the day when they strike against unfair working conditions. This is the first Disney production that Judson Theatre has performed.

Directed by Judson alums Joshua ’08 and Melissa ’11 Hoegh, Newsies will feature a cast of 27, with plenty of high-energy singing and dancing to go around. Judson’s cast will include students of varying majors and graduating classes. There will also be student athletes and even a faculty member among the casting ranks.

Joshua and Melissa HoeghCo-director Joshua Hoegh says prepare to be entertained. “Newsies is a Tony Award-winning musical packed with energy, song and dance and is the largest-scale production that Judson has taken on in nearly 10 years!” he said.

The production will include more than a dozen musical numbers, half of which will feature the entire cast.

The Hoeghs are very familiar with the Judson stage. "This is my seventh Judson Theatre production as vocal director,” said Joshua Hoegh. “The last four of those, including Newsies, have been alongside my wife, Melissa - our fearless leader and director."

Tickets will be available October 10: $10 for adults; $5 for students and staff; $8 for seniors and groups of 10 or more. For more ticket information, call the Box Office at 847-628-2625 or send an email request to jutheatretickets@judsonu.edu.
