John Wedell Named Head Men’s Golf Coach

John Wedell (ELGIN, IL – January 16, 2019) John Wedell will assume the head coach position of the men’s golf program at Judson University. Wedell is in the midst of his third season as the head women’s golf coach at Judson and will continue that role.

During his time with the women’s coach, Wedell has led the Eagles to two first-place finishes and has guided Grace Haakenson to back-to-back NCCAA National championship appearances in the fall of 2017 and 2018.

“I’m excited to lead the program in its current direction and look forward to bringing the Eagles to the next level,” said Wedell. “I love winning, we certainly will keep God first in everything we do. But to honor him, we will try to win every match and continue to recruit players to eventually win a conference championship. We’ve been blessed to have individuals go to the NCCAA tournament. I’d love to see our teams advance to the NAIA National Championship.”

Before coming to Judson, Wedell was the head golf coach at Westminster Christian High School on Elgin’s west side and also was in charge of the softball and bowling programs.

“We are very excited John has accepted this dual role,” said Chad Gassman, director of athletics, “John is very knowledgeable in the sport and does a great job serving and mentoring our athletes at Judson.”
