"Youth of the Year" Student to Attend Judson in the Fall

Damaryan Benton(ELGIN, IL – April 18, 2019) Boys and Girls Club “Youth of the Year” award winner Damaryan Benton will attend Judson University in the fall to study in Business Administration and Communications. He joins the Judson community through a prestigious full-tuition, four-year scholarship given to the high school student who wins the Youth of the Year Award.

Damaryan Benton will graduate this spring from Elgin High School. He has been attending the Boys and Girls Club of Elgin for 11 years, saying that, “Being part of the Boys and Girls Club became some of the best memories of my childhood.” Despite the challenges of losing his father as a child and being supported by his mother, Benton had the opportunity to embrace his childhood and learn about leadership at the Boys and Girls Club.

Since 1947, the Youth of the Year Award has been Boys and Girls Club of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of club members. Each year, one exceptional youth from the program rises to the role of National Youth of the Year. This is the second year that Judson has provided a full-tuition, four-year scholarship to the Elgin Boys and Girls Club "Youth of the Year" winner. Benton went on to be named 2019 Illinois Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

In addition to pursuing his studies, Benton will play on the men’s volleyball team at Judson. During his time in high school, he was a part of the school’s cheerleading and volleyball team and also completed an internship with the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Support Programs at School District U-46.
