Judson Social Media Guidelines

The following guidelines are authored and managed by Judson’s Communications Office, as approved by Cabinet on July 15, 2011. For all social media related questions and concerns, please contact Judson Social Media Manager Bethany Suckrow or Judson Communications and Marketing Director Mary Dulabaum.

I. Judson University Social Media Mission Statement:

With all of Judson's social media efforts, we commit to the Christ-like treatment of every user through civil discussion, protection of privacy, and appropriate, relevant content. We welcome all questions, comments and concerns from our users, both internally and externally. Our goal is to provide an online community for everyone to share ideas, experiences and helpful information. To maintain a positive online environment, we ask that you respect these social media guidelines for Judson University. We reserve the right to remove content that does not adhere.

II. Social Media Guideline Intent:

By participating in Judson's social media through our pages, groups and accounts we ask that you acknowledge and adhere to the following guidelines.

  1. Please do not post material that is unlawful, profane, obscene, malicious, threatening, harassing, abusive, hateful or embarrassing to any other person or entity as decided by Judson University. It is permissible to voice a complaint or disagreement with another post, but we ask that you do so respectfully.
  2. Please do not post material that violates the rights of a third party, including intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
  3. Please know your facts before you post them to our social media pages. We will correct or remove false information.
  4. Please do not post "spam," including ads or solicitous material that promotes unrelated businesses, organizations, political entities, chain letters, or pyramid schemes.
  5. Please do not impersonate another individual or entity or allow another person or entity to impersonate you for the purpose of engaging in Judson's social media. Any instances of impersonation will be reported to the site administration, and in severe instances may be subject to law enforcement.
  6. Please do not create a social media page, group, account or profile for a Judson-affiliated organization without the permission of Judson University's Communications Office. Should you do so and it does not adhere to our guidelines, we will ask you to delete it, or we will report it for disablement.
    • This applies to Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, blogs, websites, or any other web content for representation of a Judson University department, class, group or team.
    • Should you wish to create a social media page, please contact Social Media Manager Bethany Suckrow at the Judson University Communications Office. She will work with you on establishing a mission, vision and strategic plan for the account, at which time a full list of guidelines will be given to you and a contract will be signed.
  7. Social media pages should never be created or managed by an individual or entity that is not a Judson faculty, staff, or student. Should you do so, we reserve the right to report it for disablement.
  8. If you would like discounts, rental housing ads, or non-Judson events promoted through Judson social media to be offered to the Judson community, please contact the administrators of the page and we will work with you.
  9. Please post in the right places. Judson hosts many social media sites for different purposes and audiences, so make sure your post is relevant to the audience. If you are not sure where to post a comment or helpful information, please contact the administrators of the page.
  10. Social media is not meant to replace formal, direct contact with students through Judson email, direct mail, telephone calls, or face-to-face discussion. Any information regarding financial aid, registration, academic standing, course work, or disciplinary issues should not be communicated through social media, either faculty or staff to student, or student to faculty or staff.* If you have any questions about this, please contact the Judson Communications Office.
    • In certain instances, repeated violation of this may attract the attention of site administrators and may result in site administrators disabling your personal profile account.
  11. Judson staff and faculty may not use social media to contact students without their permission. Students are not required to connect with faculty or staff through social media, nor are faculty or staff required to connect with students through social media, even if contact is requested. Course communication via personal social media profiles should never be a requirement, especially for grades or coursework completion.
  12. Protect your privacy. Do not include your phone number, email address, or other personal information on any of Judson's pages because the content is public and visible to everyone. Should you choose to do so, Judson is not liable for any consequences that may result.
  13. Administrators of Judson social media accounts are committed to the careful observation of content posted or linked to our pages. However, Judson is not responsible for the content of any website outside of the judsonu.edu domain. Any non-Judson link, whether posted by a Judson employee or any other user, does not imply Judson’s approval of that website in part or in whole.
  14. Posts by page administrators will appear as "Judson University" along with the official profile image. Any other comments on the site do not necessarily reflect the opinions and positions of Judson University. You are legally responsible for the comments and links that you post.
  15. Judson’s social media administrators welcome the input and help of its users. Should you see inappropriate content or behavior on any of our pages, please contact us and we will do what we can to rectify the situation as it applies to these guidelines.
