Check Out & Renewal

Current Judson students, faculty, and staff may check out books at the Circulation Desk using their Judson ID card. Community patrons will need to present a driver's license and fill out a one-page application in order to get a library account. Loan periods for books from Judson are 28 days for undergraduate students and community patrons, and one semester for graduate students and faculty. Courtesy and overdue notices will be sent through e-mail, the campus post office, or the U.S. postal service. To renew books by phone, call (847) 628-2030. Patrons may also renew books via the online Judson Library Catalog, using the "My Account" feature. A non-refundable fine of $25 per book will accrue 45 days after the due date. There is an additional $100 replacement fee for lost items. Books can be returned inside the library at the Circulation desk, in the book drop next to the main doors of the library in the Harm A. Weber Academic Center, or in the outdoor book drop next to the 15-minute parking.

Reserve Materials

Reserve materials are books, articles, and media that faculty set aside for their classes. Students can check out these material at the Circulation Desk with their Judson ID. Most reserves are due within 2 hours of checkout and are intended for in-library use only.

Professors are encouraged to leave their items at the Circulation Desk after they have completed a Reserve Form indicating the course name, section, professor's name, and preference for overnight checkout.

Photocopier & Fax Machine

There are two photocopiers in the library. It costs $0.10 to make black and white photocopies.

Patrons are welcome to use the library's fax machine. A fax within the United States costs $1 to send, and an international fax costs $2. There is no fee for receiving a fax.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan, also called ILL, is a system that enables patrons to get materials from other libraries if Judson does not own them. Interlibrary loan items may be requested through I-Share, WorldCat, Find it @ Judson links within our databases, from our Interlibrary Loan website pages, or through e-mail. Patrons will receive an e-mail when the material arrives at Judson and is available to be picked up. All materials requested through I-Share will have a checkout of 28 days. The amount of time that patrons can keep interlibrary loan materials from other sources will vary, depending on the date that the lending library gives. Please allow 2 weeks to receive materials through interlibrary loan.

Judson University Library will not knowingly request required textbooks for students on interlibrary loan, either through I-Share or OCLC. Thus, the library will check the list of required textbooks obtained from the bookstore every semester, and will not order on interlibrary loan a required textbooks for a student enrolled in that course. The reasons for this are: 1). The library does not want to circumvent the expectations of instructors and the bookstore that students will purchase required textbooks and 2). The variable conditions, loan periods, etc. of interlibrary loan materials often leave students with no access to the textbook partway through the semester.

If you have any comments or questions, please e-mail Larry Wild or call (847) 628-2036.
