JSO Positions

Student Body President

Presides over all meetings of the JSO and acts as the connector between the Student Body and the Judson University faculty, staff, administration, board of trustees, and alumni. Gives speeches, serves on committees, runs meetings and evaluates staff. (Position is nominated and elected)

Vice President of Operations

Chairs the Operations Branch that is made up of the treasurer, IT specialist, executive assistant and the senior publicist. In charge of overseeing the daily and long term operations of JSO and leading those on their branch to do their jobs effectively. The VP of Operations must also hold a job on the branch (i.e. they serve as VP and treasurer or assistant or IT, etc).

Treasurer

Oversees all funds allocated to the JSO and maintains careful record of the collection and distribution of funds. Provides monthly financial reports to the JSO.

Executive Assistant

Coordinates communication for JSO. Maintains a permanent historical file of JSO meeting minutes. Coordinates and distributes JSO monthly calendar to student body.

IT Specialist

Coordinates and develops content for the Judson University website related to JSO. Partner with various members of JSO and the student body to report on different events and aspects that faithfully represent life at Judson University via the web.

Publicist

One senior and two junior publicists are hired to create and manage all advertising needed by various members of JSO. Must be proficient in photoshop and other editing programs.

Videographers

Creates and manages all video content that is required by members of JSO or student development in order to promote or explain various events and causes. Must be proficient in video editing and filming.

Vice President for Social Activities

Chairs the Social Activities Branch that is made up of Social Activity Coordinators, Dorm Presidents, BASIC and International Presidents. Leads Social Activities members to fulfill their primary responsibility of coordinating campus activities and events – such as Homecoming, Christmas Party, Spring Banquet, and large-scale campus wide events.

Academic Life Chair

Strives to help students see the value of critical thinking skills by planning stimulating lectures, discussion groups, forums, museum trips, etc.

Arts Chair

Plans events to build awareness of the arts in the community (i.e. Elgin Symphony Orchestra, Wicked). Serves as the liaison to JSO and the student body for events on campus like the Imago Film Festival and campus plays.

Dorm Presidents

Coordinates regular social, spiritual and educational events for dorm to promote dorm identity, unity, awareness, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Also represents the needs of the dorm to student development and the university as a whole. (Position is nominated and elected)

Commuter President

Coordinates regular social events for commuter students to promote commuter identity, unity, awareness, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Also represents the needs of the commuter population to student development and the university as a whole. (Position is nominated and elected)

BASIC President

Plan activities promoting and educating about diversity on our campus.

International President

The international representative also works closely with the international and intercultural advisor to plan programming which will unite and serve the international students.

University Ministries Positions

Campus Ministries Co-Chairs

Coordinates opportunities for intentional Outreach/ Evangelism both on and off campus. Sponsors regular praise and worship activities. Involved in spiritual enrichment programing for campus.

Community Outreach Co-Chairs

Provides student body with well-publicized volunteer and service opportunities on campus and in the surrounding communities.

Missions Co-Chairs

Plans, publicizes, and participates in Spring Break Mission’s Trips. Coordinates and plans missions team training events. Provides leadership for Mission’s Week evening sessions and activities.

Chapel Worship Leaders

Serve as a congregational worship leader for around 10-15 chapels a year. Responsibilities would include: leading a team of musicians in a weekly band rehearsal, plan worship sets (music and other creative elements) for your assigned times chapel, attend a weekly chapel leader meeting, participate in one on ones with your advisor, and monthly UM meetings.

Chapel Dance Leader

Chapel Drama Leader

Recruit and lead a group of students passionate about drama. Includes: holding auditions, leading a weekly rehearsal, planning times for further development (workshops, etc), and plan skits/dramas for several chapels throughout the year. Also attend a weekly chapel leader meeting, participate in one on ones with your advisor, and monthly UM meetings.

Resident Assistants

RAs are responsible to assist in creating and maintaining a living/learning environment by serving the dorm by having on duty nights, hosting small groups, planning and executing events for the dorm and contributing to the overall well-being of the dorm.
