Judson University to Establish Scholarship and Host Concert on February 16 in Honor of Alumna Lidia Krzemien

(Elgin, IL - January 30, 2014) Judson University's Music Department and The Center for Worship in the Performing Arts are pleased to announce the establishment of the “Lidia Krzemien Memorial Scholarship for Pianists” in honor of former Judson graduate, Lidia Krzemien. To raise funds for this scholarship, the Music Department and The Center for Worship in the Performing Arts will be presenting a fund-raising concert featuring Judson music faculty, a student piano ensemble, the Judson University Choir and the Parish Choir from St. Alexis Church in Bensenville, where Krzemien was Music Director. This special concert will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 16 in Herrick Chapel (1151 N. State St., Elgin).

Krzemien came to Judson to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance, having already completed a Masters of Piano Pedagogy in her native Poland. Krzemien taught piano students through the Judson Community Music School and the College of DuPage, as well as through her own private studio. In addition to being an accomplished pianist, accompanist and organist, Krzemien also served as a church Music Director for a number of years. Krzemien passed away in October 2013 after a long battle with cancer.

Dr. Robert P. Kania, the Chair of the Music Department at Judson University and Krzemien’s piano instructor during her time at Judson, together with Krzemien’s family, have established this new scholarship in her memory, to be awarded to worthy piano students majoring in Piano Performance at Judson. (View Dr. Kania's interview with Polvision, Chicago's Polish television station, between the 21:55 and 27:15 markings.) Tickets will be available at the door for $15 per ticket.
