KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Dr. Berlean Miller Burris
Berlean Miller Burris has had dual careers in nursing and theological education. She has been awarded numerous awards and fellowships as well as degrees from Northwestern University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University of Chicago and Moody Theological Seminary. Her accomplished careers, which included administrative and teaching roles, were most rewarding when she was able to inspire integrity and excellence in her students. Her publications focused on empowering educationally disadvantaged and minority students. She continues to serve the citizens of Chicago through community efforts.
Most recently, Dr. Burris' new book, Just Stand: God's Faithfulness Never Fails, follows her journey when her husband, Senator Roland W. Burris, was appointed to the U.S. Senate from Illinois and experienced political attacks on his personal integrity. Dr. Burris' experience of silently taking the public affronts brought a transformational moment where she affirmed the foundation of family, faith and a year of public service to stand for something greater than herself.
