Biography

Professor Joy Towner began teaching in District 205 in Elmhurst, IL. While teaching fourth grade, she realized that she desired to know more about how to teach reading, so she began earning her master's degree in Reading Education. After completing this degree, she became the building reading specialist and Reading Recovery teacher. She began teaching as an adjunct professor at Judson in 2003 and moved to full-time in 2007. She now is teaching Judson University students about the importance of reading and comprehension in the elementary school. In addition, Joy's desire is to help pre-service teachers prepare for the calling in their lives to impact students not only educationally, but also socially and spiritually. To help parents and current teachers, she has done some writing for Sleeping Bear Press for their beginning chapter books and their website. She lives in Carpentersville with her husband and two children. You may see her cheering on her son's basketball team or rooting for her daughter at an Irish Step dance competition. She also teaches Sunday school and leads Awana at First Baptist of Elgin where she is a member.
