The Judson University Community Orchestra is truly a community-university cooperative endeavor that brings together professionals, amateurs and students for rehearsals and performances at Judson University's Herrick Chapel. Our mission is to provide a training ground for music students at Judson, while providing a musical, artistic, and social outlet for members of the community. At the same time, it seeks to enrich the campus and the greater Elgin community through musical offerings.
How do I join?
Interested Judson University students should audition and then register for MUS 143, Orchestra. Music Performance Scholarships are available to Judson students for the following year, provided that the student or prospective student audition successfully by the spring music scholarship deadline.
Community membership is open by audition to community musicians who are at least a freshman in high school and are willing to commit to attending all rehearsals and performances. There is presently no fee for community membership, although university credit is available to those interested at current tuition rates.
When and where does the orchestra rehearse?
The orchestra rehearses each and every Monday evening (except Judson University holidays; see academic calendar) during the fall and spring traditional semester at 7:30 p.m. in the Alice and Edward Thompson Center, Room 116. The first rehearsal of the 2012-13 season will be on September 10, 2012.
For more information about the Judson University Community Orchestra, please contact Dr. Ernest Gross, Music Director, at (847) 628-1112.
