Judson University Symphonic Band
Formed in 1997, the Symphonic Band has toured in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. This is a traditional wind-band ensemble and is open to both traditional Judson University students and community members. Past programs have included such works as the First Suite in E Flat for Military Band by Gustav Holst, Russian Christmas Music by Alfred Reed, Othello: A Symphonic Portrait for Concert Band by Alfred Reed, Soundtrack Music from Jurassic Park by John Williams, Shivaree by Leonard Bernstein, Ride by Samuel Hazo, as well as lighter sacred repertoire such as All Creatures of Our God and King, arranged by Steven Bulla.
Interested Judson University students should audition and then register for MUS 146, Symphonic Band. Community membership is open by audition to community musicians who are at least a freshman in high school and are willing to commit to attending all rehearsals and performances. There is presently no fee for community membership, although university credit is available to those interested at current tuition rates.
The band rehearses each and every Thursday evening (except Judson University holidays; see academic calendar) during the fall and spring traditional semester at 7:30 p.m. in the Alice and Edward Thompson Center, room 116. The first rehearsal of the 2012-13 season will be on August 30, 2012.
