Senior Circuit

Journey to "New" Health, a new body, a new life and a new you living a healthier lifestyle

What is Senior Circuit?

Senior Circuit is a program specializing in the health, exercise, and nutrition fields for older adults. This program is for guests 60 and older (but, any age is able to participate in this physical activity program). This class implements basic exercises that will increase flexibility, cardiovascular, and muscular strength using different methods.

Purpose

The purpose is to educate and improve physical activity among older adults through service-learning. This program will offer extensive "on the job" training through a service program offered by the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, dedicated to offering safe and effective exercise opportunities to older adults in the Fox Valley community. Additionally, students gain knowledge of effective program management practices in terms of customer service, program promotion and customer retention. This program promotes application of many concepts taught in our curriculum, stresses communication, and refines teaching skills.

Health, Nutrition and Exercise

Health

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely absence of disease or infirmity. There are many ways to live a strong and healthy life. Two key components are nutrition and physical activity. Focusing on these through the aging process will help you live a longer, more plentiful life physically and emotionally.

Nutrition

We recognize the importance that nutrition plays in successful aging. Lunch is provided Monday through Friday, from 11:00-12:30 in the Alumni Room, Lindner Fitness Center from a grant through the Ad-ministration on Aging (AoA) through the Golden Diners Club, Salvation Army. Register at Judson University. This is a cooperative program between Judson University, The Centre of Elgin, & Salvation Army.

Physical Activity

Physical activity includes anything that gets you moving, such as walking, dancing, working in the yard, or grocery shopping. In order to be physically fit you do not have to go to the gym and use fancy equipment. As long as you continue to move, improve range of motion, flexibility and endurance to withstand the daily activities of life you will age gracefully and improve your quality of life.
