ARCHITECTURE DEPARTMENT
Why Study Architecture or Interior Design at Judson?
At Judson University, our architecture program aspires to be a global leader in architectural education and Christian service. Founded in 1997, and initially accredited in 2004, our architecture program is widely acknowledged for its innovative approach to architectural education including a one-year preceptorship (internship) and its context of an evangelical Christian institution. Environmental stewardship is also a design philosophy that guides the program and its approach to architecture education.
Architecture Major (Bachelor Degree)
We offer both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in Architecture. Our degrees include the 136-hour Bachelor of Arts in Architectual Studies (BAAS), Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design (BA) and a 42-hour professional Master in Architecture (M.Arch) degree that is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The two-degree format at Judson is referred to as a “hybrid 4+2 format.” Distinctively, our format includes a robust four-year undergraduate curriculum, a required year-long professional internship (preceptorship) between the degree programs, and concludes with a concentrated, three-term graduate curriculum, offered over the course of one calendar year, in a Summer-Fall-Spring format.

Architecture Department Highlights
A Christian Context
Our Christian university context is unique among professional architecture programs and other Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) schools.
Individualized Attention
Our architecture program has a good student-to-faculty ratio, 16:1, in a relatively small program of 150 students.
Close to Chicago
Judson University is located just minutes from Chicago, a center for quintessentially American architecture and urbanism.
Experienced Professors
100% of our faculty hold terminal degrees or advanced doctorates.
Environmental Stewardship and LEED Gold Academic Center
Students complete their architecture education within one of the most environmentally self-sustaining academic buildings in the country, the Harm A. Weber Academic Center, a state of the art LEED Gold building designed by international architect and Cambridge University professor C. Alan Short.
Accredited Master in Architecture (M.Arch) Degree
Judson's Master of Architecture degree program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
Unique Curricular Structure
Designed to be completed in five years, our architecture programs utilize a creative and compressed scheduling compared to conventional state school's 4 year BA/BS plus 2 year Master of Architecture format. Students complete a full year of practice-based work experience between the two degree programs for a completely unique hybridization of architecture education and practice.
Study Away Experience
Each student will study architecture on a European trip the summer after their junior year to study the masters and develop the fine arts required within the field.
