Cisneros Captures National Record in Winning Sixth Straight Win

(Brookings, SD March 7, 2020) Judson University Senior Anali Cisneros continues to build upon her incredible Judson legacy as she broke the NAIA National Record time in the 3000-meter NAIA Indoor Racewalk National Championship with a total time of 13:38.07.

Cisneros ImageAnali led from wire to wire to win her third straight NAIA indoor title, her sixth straight national championship in a row, and her seventh consecutive All-American honor between the indoor and outdoor national championships. After a relaxed first lap she put the hammer down in lap two then hit pretty even splits the rest of the way to better the old record by nearly 12 seconds. Cisneros missed the record by 1 second at the 2019 championships.

Sophomore Maria Alarcon finished in second place in the race with a time of 14:47.63. Junior Nayeli Cisneros secured eighth place with a time of 15:26.00. Both runners raced in a pack of four-to-five runners for most of the race until Alarcon and another athlete broke out with about 4 laps to go. Alarcon closed on the eventual 3rd place finisher 600 meters out and was five meters off her shoulder on the bell lap and made her pass in the homestretch to take second place. This was the 4th all American honor for Nayeli and the 3rd all American honor for Alarcon.

"Anali's performance today was that of a seasoned championship performer," said Director of Cross Country/Track and Field Joel Popenfoose. "Her conditioning was outstanding and she executed her race strategy perfectly. We are so proud of her, Maria and Nayeli."

Judson also had participation at the NAIA National Championships on Friday from Chloe Burkhart. The senior participated in the 3000-meter semifinal run and placed 13th with a time of 10:24.11. Burkhart was one position away from advancing to the finals.

Judson currently sits in second place on the women's side of the championships heading into the final day. For the second consecutive season, the Eagles are in the top two teams heading into the final day. An incredible first two days from the Judson University Women's Indoor Track & Field Team. Judson University extends congratulations to all athletes involved!
