Judson University Awards Youth of the Year Winner with Scholarship

Nya Collins (ELGIN, IL – April 16, 2020) For the third year, Judson University is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin to offer a full-tuition, four-year scholarship to the high school student who wins the organization’s Youth of the Year Award.

The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin’s announced today on social media hat Nya Colvin, a junior at Streamwood High School in Streamwood, Ill., is this year’s winner of its Youth of the Year Award.

Colvin said the Boys & Girls Club was a beacon of hope for her, “My Boys & Girls Club encouraged me and guided me into being a better version of myself. I surround myself with people at Club who can make my day whenever times get rough. Along with giving me a solid support system, my Club introduced me to so many opportunities that I otherwise might have not experienced, especially when it comes to exploring new careers.”

Colvin, a junior at Streamwood High School, plans to attend a 4-year university and study psychology. “I want to go into psychology to help people who struggle with anxiety just like me. I yearn to be someone else’s support system and be there for them like the Club is there for me,” Colvin said.

“We are pleased to offer Nya the opportunity to earn her bachelor’s degree at Judson University with a full tuition scholarship,” said Judson President Gene Crume. “By supporting the Youth of the Year winner to attend Judson University, we are providing a unique opportunity for her to fulfill her academic dreams at the same time we are fulfilling our mission to shape lives that shape the world.”

In his video announcement congratulating Colvin, Dr. Crume noted that she represents the leadership and service qualities often found in Judson students. He praised her for serving others in special education classes in her high school and for her commitment to excellence as vice president of Sabre News at Streamwood High School.

Colvin will continue to serve as a spokesperson and role model for Boys & Girls Club kids in the greater Elgin area. The Club leaders say she will truly exemplify the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs by reaching her full potential as a productive, caring, responsible citizen.

Since 1947, the Youth of the Year Award has been Boys & Girls Club of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of club members. Each year, one exceptional youth from a Boys & Girls Club program rises to the role of National Youth of the Year, too.
