Judson University to Award Honorary Doctorate to Rev. Dr. Dae Sik Yang at Opening Convocation

Dr. Yang (ELGIN, IL – August 14, 2019) Judson University will award Rev. Dr. Dae Sik Yang with an Honorary Doctor of Divinity during its opening convocation on Monday, August 19, at 10 a.m. in Herrick Chapel (1151 N. State St., Elgin).

Rev. Dr. Yang is the Senior Pastor of Jinju Sungnam church in the southeastern part of the Korean peninsula. He is also President of the Jinju Presbytery, encompassing his professorship at Dae Shin Theological Seminary and as Global Mission Society (GMS) Vice-Chair of the Presbyterian General Assembly. The GMS is the single largest Presbyterian missionary organization in South Korea, reaching Europe, Asia, Russia, Latin America and Africa.

From 1991 to 2007, Rev. Dr. Yang pastored a Korean-American church in Chicago. Upon returning to South Korea, Rev. Dr. Yang was appointed to serve at the largest church in the Jinju region, in a city with a population of over 300,000 people.

Dr. Yang holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Westminster Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Chong Shin Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Judson University. He and his wife, EunJoo, have two adult children, JeeEun and Daniel.
