Sydney Tucker

Education, Class of 2022

Sydney Tucker ’22 of Darien, Ill., chose to attend Judson because she “knew that Judson is where I wanted grow into a strong woman, teacher and Christian.” Now in her sophomore year, Sydney is deeply involved in the community and in her practicums within the education department.

“During freshman registration, I chose to be an early childhood education major because I realized that…I enjoy the early childhood field, especially because in the early years ‘general education’ and ‘special education’ students are typically in the same classes,” said Sydney, reflecting on how she chose her academic program.

“This year as a sophomore, I am blessed to be a RISE Resident Assistant along with other mentor positions,” said Sydney. “I grew up with my younger sister, Emma, who had special needs and I helped care for [her].” Emma Tucker passed away this August.

“Judson has given me opportunities to learn more about myself and grow as a Christian and future teacher. Our professors really care about us and want us to succeed in life. In my practicum, I had to have a minimum of 12 hours and I think I ended up with almost 30!” Sydney reflected. “That practicum was like my mid-week break where I could go play with, care for, and learn more about infants.”

In the future, Sydney plans to work as a preschool teacher in a low-income community, reaching out to general education, special education, and English-as-a-second-language students. “Judson is where I know I’ll be able to grow and become the person I want to be. The community, the landscape, the classes – everything is great!”
