Dr. Edgardo Perez-Maldonado is Chair of Judson’s Architecture and Interior Design Department, having served both in the field of Architecture and in academia around the country and around the world for more than 13 years. Hailing from Puerto Rico, Dr. Perez-Malonado completed his Ph.D. in history at the Inter-American University Metropolitan Campus, concentrating on topics of urbanism, architecture, and culture. Additionally, he completed a Master of Architecture at the Savannah College of Arts and Design. For several years, he trained as a professional designer working for architecture and urban design firms in San Juan, New York, and Savannah. Dr. Perez-Maldonado received the distinction of “Outstanding Professor Award” at the International School of Design and Architecture of the Universidad Ana G. Méndez. His creative work has received awards and mentions in Puerto Rico, the United States, and Europe.

Alan Frost is an Associate Professor of Architecture and has served as the Director of Fabrication as well as taught as an adjunct at Judson since 2011.

Sean Gallagher is a professor and Architect Licensing Advisor at Judson. He also is practitioner with an office in Geneva, Ill. His interests focus on the potential for architecture to reveal and connect humanity with the created order through the tectonic integration of natural phenomenon. More Info

Daniel Hussey

Dan Hussey, visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture, has been an adjunct professor in architecture at Judson since January of 2019.Prior to Judson, he spent the last 32 years building his private architectural firm, Hussey Architects Ltd. Dan worked for Skidmore, Owings and Merrill in Chicago and taught at both the University of Notre Dame and Andrews University earlier in his career. Over the years, he has lectured at and participated in reviews at various universities, and guided summer programs for young aspiring architects. He received a Bachelor’s of Architecture from Notre Dame and a Masters of Science in Architecture and Building Design from Columbia University. He is active in coaching high school sports in soccer and basketball and has headed up many athletic organizations for over 30 years. Dan is passionate about promoting sustainability and traditional architecture and advocates for study abroad for the students.

Joan Kaufman, FASID, LEED AP, is adjunct professor of interior design and founder of Interior Planning & Design Inc., which creates interior environments through space planning, interior design, lighting, color, finishes, furniture and art. Professor Kaufman has won many awards for design and is known as a strong leader in eco-friendly design. Her firm’s work has been featured in local and national publications, including the Chicago Tribune, Interiors and Sources, Architectural Lighting, Better Homes & Gardens, Remodeling Ideas, Window Fashions, and West Suburban Living.

Christopher Lauriat is assistant professor of Architecture and assistant department chair. He holds a master's degree in Architecture from Cornell University and bachelor's degrees in Architecture and Environmental Engineering from Ball State University. With expertise in ecclesiastical and residential design, Lauriat continues his role as director of Architecture for Chicagoland design-build firm, Church Building Consultants.

Dr. Andressa Martinez earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning from the School of Architecture at FAU/UFRJ - Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She earned a Master's and a Doctorate in Urban Design from PROURB/UFRJ. Her current research is focused on methodological design studies, digital design processes, and fabrication. She is also an active member of non-profit associations related to the use of computers in Architecture, such as SIGraDi, in South American, and as an annual reviewer for the European Conference (eCAADe).

Michael Meissner

Award-winning architect and entrepreneur Michael Meissner is Visiting Assistant Professor of Architecture at Judson. He received his Bachelor’s of Architecture in Design from the University of Illinois Chicago Campus Circle and has been an Illinois Registered Architect since 1983. He is passionate about solving challenging problems in order to benefit the local and global communities. He has previously taught as an Assistant Adjunct Professor and served as a mentor to junior architects. He also has delivered lectures at several academic and professional institutions.

Dr. Luis Fernando Nunez studied Architecture and earned a Master's Degree in Architectural Design in Mexico, where he graduated with Honors. He also studied for his Ph.D. in Architecture at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He was a full-time professor at Monterrey Tec University Campus Querétaro, Director of the Architecture Program and Department as well as Dean of the School of Architecture, Art and Design of Monterrey Tec University. He has taught in France at the Savannah College of Art and Design and has lectured at specialized conferences stressing the importance of the “spirit of place” and topics related to sustainability in Architecture and Urbanism. Leading his own professional firm, he has carried out more than 30 architectural projects, some of them awarded nationally, including the building for the School of Architecture, Art and Design of Monterrey Tec, which received a LEED Platinum certification by the USGBC.

Marcos Petroli

Marcos Petroli is Assistant Professor of Architecture. He earned two Bachelor’s degrees from the College of Architecture, Federal University of Rio Grande; his Master’s from the History and Theory of Architecture from the Federal University of Rio Grande; and a PhD in the History and Theory of Architecture from Illinois Institute of Technology. He grew up in Brazil and was raised with Catholic teachings and values. He has publications written in both English and Portuguese in several countries and his research is focused on the modern civic buildings in the Americas. He has also participated in a number of non-profit organizations.
