Traditional Undergraduate Graduation Requirements

Applications for graduation must be turned in to the Registrar’s Office at least one year prior to the planned graduation date. All degree seeking students at Judson are required to meet with their Academic Advisor to complete the application. The advisor must review and approve the planned coursework. Applications that are not filled out entirely or do not have a copy of the degree audit attached will be returned to the student for completion. Once the application is accepted by the Registrar’s Office, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain approval from the Registrar for any changes in their plan for completing requirements and to verify that course registration each term matches the approved plan. No late applications will be accepted.

The Application for Graduation form is available via MyJudson/Student Info/Resources – Forms (bottom right hand column).

In submitting a graduation application, students acknowledge that they understand that their academic requirements must be completed and all accounts must be cleared before Commencement, and that a graduation fee will be applied regardless of participation in the formal Commencement ceremony.

Overall Requirements for Graduation

  • At least 120 credit hours are required for graduation. In some cases, more than 120 hours may be required due to major requirements.
  • All students complete a minimum of 30 hours overall of upper division courses.
  • For most majors, a minimum of 40% of major coursework must be upper division. Please check individual major requirements for variations.
  • A minimum of 40% of major coursework must be completed at Judson.
  • All students must meet Judson's 30 hour residency requirement (at least 20 of last 30 hours completed must be in residency).
  • For most majors, minimum cumulative and major GPAs of 2.0 are required for graduation. Please check individual major requirements for variations.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for all minors.
  • A maximum of 8 hours in physical education activity courses may be applied toward graduation requirements. All activity courses (ESS112 to ESS148) may be repeated once for additional credit.*
  • A maximum of 8 hours (24 hours for music majors) of applied music may be counted toward graduation requirements.*

*The Graduation Advisor may need to manually increase required hours if exceeded.

Carry-Over Credit Policy for Traditional Degree Candidates

Instructors will submit progress reports for all graduating seniors in traditional undergraduate programs who are failing to the Registrar's Office no later than the Friday before the final day of the semester. These reports will be used to determine final eligibility for participation at Commencement. Traditional degree candidates participating in the spring ceremony will be permitted to carry over one course (to a maximum of four credit hours) which must end no later than three weeks into the summer term. They must have satisfactorily completed all other academic requirements and registered and paid for the Judson summer course. Degree will be conferred upon successful completion of the three week summer course and payment of outstanding accounts. All traditional degree candidates who complete their graduation requirements after the three week summer term but prior to August 1 will participate in the next fall ceremony. Upon their course completion, they can be issued a letter stating that they have met all graduation requirements. Their degree date will be that of the August 31 degree date.
