Dr. Denise Purvis

Associate Professor, MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program

Dr. Denise Purvis, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Nationally Board-Certified Counselor, Internationally Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, and EMDR-trained therapist.  She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Counseling within the Division of Professional Studies and the Practicum Internship Coordinator for the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. 

Her background includes more than 25 years of experience working in the field of mental health as a counselor in private practice, program development within agencies, supervision roles, community agencies, employee assistance program provider, and as a substance abuse counselor in residential and outpatient settings. Dr. Purvis has served as an adjunct instructor with other universities. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Family and Child Studies, with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy, from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Walden University. She is an active member of various local and national counseling associations presenting on topics related to supervision in counseling.
