Dr. Richard Sams

Dr. Richard Sams has been in pastoral ministry for over thirty-five years and has been serving as the pastor of Calhoun Baptist Church in Calhoun, Kentucky since May of 1999. He is a Kentucky native who holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He will be completing a Ph.D. in Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in the fall of 2024. Dr. Sams also has two masters’ degrees (Master of Divinity and Master of the Arts of Religion – Youth Ministry Emphasis) from Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary in Lynchburg, Virginia. In addition, he has also taught several courses for both Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Mid-Continent University. Dr. Sams has also previously served on the Pastoral Leadership Advisory Board of Liberty University. He is married to Shawn Sams, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Liberty University and is the current Associate Director of Clinical Operations and Quality Control for an international pharmaceutical company. They have three grown children: Allyson (Sams) Cooper, Haley Grace Sams, and John William Sams, along with their first grandchild, Mia.
