Judson University announces the nominees for its annual D. Ray Wilson and Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Service Awards. Both awards will be presented at the Community Prayer Breakfast on Wednesday, May 11, which will be held on Judson’s Elgin campus.
The D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award is awarded to the adult candidate who has contributed to the greater good within the Fox Valley community by voluntarily serving others’ physical, emotional, intellectual, or spiritual needs. Last year, Judson created the new Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Service award and scholarship to recognize the community service work of high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors in the Fox Valley.
The 2022 D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award nominees are:
RICHARD CHILDS has volunteered as the head coach of The Elgin Sharks for more than 2 years. The Elgin Sharks Track Club is a non-profit organization serving the youth of Elgin and the surrounding communities. The goal of the Sharks is to foster an interest in the sport of running both track and cross country while supporting the growth of healthy habits and mindsets. He has helped runners meet health and fitness goals as well as taught them valuable lessons such as teamwork, responsibility, and determination. Richard also actively works to create partnerships with The Elgin Sharks.
TOM ROESER has served as president of OTTO Engineering, which was first established by his father, since 1987. Under Tom’s leadership and business talent, the manufacturing company has flourished and has grown to more than 500 employees. Based in Carpentersville, OTTO manufactures control switches and grips that perform every day in some of the toughest applications including heavy equipment, aerospace, marine, medical, communication, and other demanding markets. During his tenure as president, Roeser has given to the community generously from investing in the old historic downtown district of East Dundee and Carpentersville to giving time and financial support to the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township, Elgin Community College, Judson University, the Business/Education Partnership at Dundee Crown High School, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra.
The Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Service Award recognizes freshmen through juniors in high school for voluntarily performing community work that serves others’ physically, emotionally, intellectually or spiritually. The Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Service Award winner will receive a $3,000 scholarship annually to attend Judson University. The 2022 Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Service Award honoree is:
ANAYELI FLORES is an exceptional student at Larkin High School. Flores has maintained excellent grades all four years of high school and has been on the honor roll because of her hard work. Not only has she maintained employment outside of school, but she has also been involved in sports and clubs such as Cross Country, Tri-M Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. Through this work and her volunteer work at the Gail Borden Library, Flores has accumulated more than 100 hours of community service hours.
Join us for Judson’s Community Prayer Breakfast on May 11 at 7:30 a.m., featuring a keynote presentation by Rev. Huron Claus, a fifth-generation follower of Jesus Christ. The Claus Indian family has ministered through evangelism and music in Native communities and villages across North, Central, and South America. He also is the president of CHIEF, Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission to disciple and train a strong Native Christian leadership in the Word of God, who will practically impact their communities for the glory of God.
