Hope Prayer Chapel
Hope Prayer Chapel
On April 20, 2021, the Judson University community was devastated by the loss of two of their Architecture students in a car accident. This was not the first, nor will it be the last time tragedy strikes our community.
As Christian’s, we know that our world is fallen and we are not immune to grief, loss, and suffering. We also know that God works through our weaknesses and trials to develop each of us. In response to the sudden and tragic loss of Dallas Colburn and Nathanael Madison, a group of students set out to use their passion for architecture and design to create an experience for the community that brings healing. The development of the Hope Prayer Chapel has been a journey for those who were closest to Dallas and Nate.
The student’s journey includes a better understanding of the scriptures and what God teaches us about resting in the strength and peace that only the Father provides. The journey continues in better understanding of the various forms and expressions of grief. Another part of the journey reveals that loss and grief are universal in our fallen world so making the experience available to all whether they are experiencing pain in the past, present or future is important.
The outcome is a memorial prayer chapel that considers the provisions of God, the embrace of the community, and the building of relationships. The chapel is not meant to represent the grief we feel, but the hope we have through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection; a hope for better times to come.
